Junior & Senior Business Project
"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."
Colossians 3:17
Election of Officers
At the beginning of each school year, current junior and senior students are instructed in the requirements for each student office: president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary. Students are nominated by fellow students and then a vote for each office is taken by secret ballot. The winning officers are announced and responsibilities are assumed immediately. All juniors and seniors receive 1/2 business credit per year of participation. This is a required credit for graduation.
Establishment of a Class Budget
Throughout the course of the year students learn how to establish and balance a monthly budget, maintain a monthly cashflow statement, and work towards a financial goal at the end of the school year. Students are supervised in the purchasing, preparing, and serving of two weekly hot lunches to the staff and student body. Additionally, they stock and sell concessions for all home athletic events. All profits raised by the end of the school year go towards the Senior Trip and any excess to the beginning balance for the next year's senior class.
Weekly Hot Lunches
Students in the Business Project, plan each month of meals out in advance including one hot meal and one lunch of pizza each week. They base meal prices off of food, travel, and overhead costs. Students do their own shopping and are responsible for issuing order forms and collecting all forms and money. They learn quickly how important an accurate budget is in a small business!
Secondary Fundraising
Additional fundraising is often necessary depending on the size of the graduating class in order to send all the students on the Senior Trip. In past years, students have gone to New York City, Gatlinburg, Boston, Chicago, and Florida. Each trip is packed with both activities that are educational and memories that last a lifetime.
